In this episode of It's A Mimic! the panel of Dungeon Masters takes a good hard look at Orc society, what makes them tick, and why they are such versatile Dungeons and Dragons villains. Both superstitious and militaristic, Orcs clearly deserve to be the subject of the first Mob Mentality episode. From player strategies to DM tactics to flavourful lore, this conversation covers a wide variety of topics around Orcs and their penchant for large-scale murderhobo-ism.
SUMMARY: When the DM's sit down to tackle Dan's favourite horde in D&D 5th Edition, they cover more than just combat and tactics. They look at motivations and potential social encounters with the semi-nomadic humanoids and touch briefly upon the Orc pantheon. Terry encourages everyone to think about the green meanies in ways beyond their simple stupidity and anger issues. The Dungeon Masters also put their heads together to create scenarios where Orcs can be effective at nearly every level and challenge even higher-tiered players. Listen in to hear about how Orcs are both classic tropes and under-appreciated warriors in everyone's favourite TTRPG!

All right now they mentioned Orc traps and Adam basically said hey you know this is not something that I think they do. I think the real thing he's missing here is that there is a chance it's going to be a noisemaker trap that tells the Orcs hey somebody's here time to ambush people. So it's not you letting your heart in the pirate of the Trap now if the thief doesn't succeed now the Orcs know the party is there. Thief like half succeeds did you get time to choose whether to run or fight but they're definitely going to be at some level of difficulty if they just spring the Ambush trap. So that's a good way to include traps to the thief can deal with like a Mechanicals or tripwire it doesn't set off a damage inducing trap know it sets off an alarm and now the thief still has a role to play in using his find traps ability but it can give people an advantage in letting people the adventures know that there's Orcs around and maybe they can try to set up something to where they could counter Ambush the Orcs if they're really smart about it so that gives a mechanical decision tree and agencies the players if they are canny enough.
