Not surprised you didn’t mention the OSR purpose behind Dancing Lights. They are supposed to look like an invisible party carrying torches so that way the Mage could then misdirect someone on watch or mislead people into thinking that there were either more people to run across or the bad guys to try and set up a ambush while they were just walking into an ambush by facing the wrong way.
