C010 - The Many Roads to Amelia: The Curious Estate of Manford Madison
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
It is Sunday, October 13th, 1918, and the Great War is on the brink of ending in Europe. The world is deeply scarred and families have been irreparably shattered. But for one young woman named Louise Knox, all of that seems very far away. For she is sitting in a horse-drawn buggy that is driving through a dying, backwater town named Amelia in the heart of the bayou in southern Louisiana. Her strange uncle Manford passed away five months ago, and the deed to his home is in question. The bank is looking to appraise and potentially repossess the property, depending on its value. Little is known about her late uncle, but rumour has it that he built a house on the land where he once survived a hurricane, and that his privacy was due to his fondness for young gentlemen callers.
As a young woman without a husband or children, she has been asked by her cousins to set aside her passion for photography and make the trek across the country in order to settle the estate. She has apprehensively agreed, and is now out of her element. She has been traveling for days and is dog tired, but she grows ever closer to the property in question. Having never met her uncle, she can only wonder what awaits her.
She clutches her minimal luggage and the camera and handgun hidden within it as she leaves the pathetic waste of the near-abandoned town, and watches the swamp begin to intrude upon the narrow logging road that leads to her destination. Nearly cut off from the world, the niceties and pleasantries of modern society are left as a distant rumour for a place so far removed from civilized life. There is no electricity out here to help her keep her fear of the dark at bay during the night, and there is certainly no telegraph or telephone.
The air is humid and thick, even in this time of year, and the swarms of insects and cacophony of animal noises seem to be everywhere. For the hundredth time, she checks her scribbled note to confirm that she is supposed to be meeting a lawyer named Mr. Speltzer, but her nervous energy is largely in part to her eagerness for answers and adventure. The buggy bounces and rocks as she comes now within the final mile of the curious estate of Manford Madison....

E089 - Off to the Races - Halflings: Enjoying a Half-Pint of Light Stout
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Pull up a stool, grab a pint, and drop those eaves... Its time for Halflings! This wonderous, lore-rich racial option of Dungeons and Dragons 5e are among the most beloved of standard fantasy lore. The panel of DMs - Adam, Megan, and Brad - break down the histories and mysteries of these half-pint dynamos before transferring over to the surprisingly powerful mechanical stats these brilliant little guys bring.
The episode wraps up with some interesting character builds. All in all, its a love letter to the lucky.

E088 – Lore – Barovia: Guests in the Living Gloom
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
Cue the creepy organ music and add some existential dread! It's time to talk about Barovia! In this week's episode of the It's A Mimic! podcast, the panel of DM's crack open Curse of Strahd and discuss all about the lore and story around Strahd's own personal slice of the Shadowfell.
Adam, Dan and Terry then throw bones about the new monsters available in the (arguably) best adventure path produced for Dungeons and Dragons 5e, and try to divine which are great additions to any campaign, which are definite skips, and which are oddly missing. Maybe next time we should pull out the Tarokka Deck?
The episode is capped off with some one shots, side quests, and full campaign arcs to inspire you to use this realm for more than Curse of Strahd provides.
Shout out: Diabolical Dungeoneer and their super slick large sized mimic mini.

E087 – Dragon Mastery – Gold Dragons: Au Yeah
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
We've reached the top of the draconic mountain to finally gain wisdom from the shiniest of dragons: the gold. Adam, Dan, and Terry take on these icons of ideals of Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, breaking down the mechanics and the combat strategies before addressing the social interactions with the most rare and isolated of all dragon kind.
The panel of Dungeon Masters then digs into some campaign ideas and some interesting options for these au-fully dreamy dragons. It's all hilarity and inspiration as the It's A Mimic! podcast finally wraps up the Monster Manual dragons.
Also, as mentioned in the show, go check out Phil's kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/philmacnevin/monstrous-mimics-3d-printable-miniatures?ref=d9avhl and back this amazing project of custom printable mimics for your table.

E086 – Dungeon Mastery - Condition Effects: Unconditional Effection
Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
When is condition not a "Condition"? When it's something that afflicts you, but isn't listed with the standard Condition Effects in the core books. What are we babbling about? Well, in this episode of the It's A Mimic! podcast, Adam, Dan, and Dave get into diseases, curses, scarring and more! Why does lycanthropy feel cheap in 5e? Where does Lay on Hands leave your plotlines dangling? When are one of these medieval weapons going to leave a permanent mark?
This week brings on the pain and suffering of all the afflictions that don't count as conditions because of their unconventional, situational, or poorly-defined natures in the basic rules. From hags to amputees to how magic makes some stories feel moot, this episode brings you topics often mentioned in passing without proper discussion.

E085 - Port-FOE-lios - Beholders: Stalks and Kills
Tuesday Sep 08, 2020
Tuesday Sep 08, 2020
In the first part of our discussion on Beholders, the panel of Dungeon Masters at the It's A Mimic! podcast sits down to review the (in)famous creature that is so iconic that it graces the cover of the 5th Edition Monster Manual itself. Terry, Dave, and Adam go over not just the mechanics and battle strategies of these aberrant nightmares, but also the breakdowns and differences when it comes to Spectators and Gazers.
Normally, I'd try to fill these show notes with puns, but it felt like low-hanging fruit, so I just focused on trying to write a normal breakdown. You have no idea how it was not to make a pun about eyes or looking or hovering or teeth in the above paragraph. - Adam

E084 – Class: Full Potential - Bards: Dirty Little Lyres
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
Get out your instrument and strum it! It's time for another round of bards! In this second episode of coverage of the marvelous minstrel, the inspirational instrumentalist, and the guy always trying to bone a dragon, Adam, Dan, and Terry attempt to shed some light onto new options presented in Xanathar's Guide to Everything for your bard's chart topper, their instrument of choice, the thing that inspires them, and the thing that they run from.
After making their way through the options, the It's A Mimic! podcast turns to the last handful of bard colleges that Dungeons and Dragons 5e has provided: College of Glamour, College of Swords, and College of Eloquence. It's sure to be a tale for the ages that absolutely in no way brings up 1940's Germany... At all... Yikes. Play us out, Sam...

E083 – Class: Half-Casters, All Fun - Paladins: Steel-Cut Oaths
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Tuesday Aug 25, 2020
Its time to get psychological with your favourite do-gooders - The Paladin. Always prone to be those paragons of order and goodness, this weeks episode of the It's a Mimic podcast decides to do it a bit different offering up our second episode by dashing the notions of the sentinals of the selfless and displaying a little bit of fanfaronade. We have the "holier-than-thou" mom of the group, the Oath of Redemption; the braggadocios Oath of Glory; and the "totally not evil you guys" Oath of Conquest.
The episode opens up the hearts of your hosts, Dan, Megan and Terry as well - displaying that we are more than mild podcasters with a love for shiny math-rocks.
We occasionally have feelings too.
