E097 – Class: 1000 Attacks - Fighters: Hitting On Everyone
Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
Tuesday Dec 01, 2020
This week on the It's A Mimic! podcast, we're charging in head first, getting into the thick of it, and kicking up dust! It's another three rounds in the ring with the most-aptly and least-imaginatively named class out there: Fighters! But we've beyond the Player's Handbook now, and we're looking into the flavourful options that no one ever talks about. That's right, it's the Arcane Archer, Cavalier, and Samurai! Is this archer better than a Ranger? How much does a cavalier rely on a mount? And how does a samurai differ in flavour?
But it's more than just arrows, horses, and katanas! The panel of Dungeon Masters also digs deep into the inspirational suggestions of Xanathar's Guide to Everything! What's you're emblem? Who trained you to be the master that you are today? And do you have a finishing move?

E096 - Off to the Races - Gnomes: That Tinking Feeling
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
Tuesday Nov 24, 2020
It's a special guest star! Everyone say hello to Pepperina (at https://www.instagram.com/pepperina_sparklegem/) and give her a proper Mimic welcome!
As Dan and Adam welcome Peps into our twisted little congregation of insanity, the It's a Mimic! podcast crouches down to take a good hard look at Gnomes in Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Rock Gnomes, Forest Gnomes, and Svirfneblin (aka Deep Gnomes) all get their own little spotlights as we embrace what makes these little tinkerers tick. Good-natured, long-lived, and ever-curious, these classic D&D creatures each bring something new and whimsical to the table (assuming they can reach it), and Dan and Peps do their best to bring Adam around on why these little guys are worth his - and your - attention.

E095 – Lore – Waterdeep: For When You’re Feeling City
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
Tuesday Nov 17, 2020
From the ancient civilization of Aelinthaldaar, through the horrors of Undermountain, the destruction of the Netherese, and the armies of the Trollwars, the Crown of the North (aka Waterdeep) has been through hell a few times. Marauders, assassinations, and incursions have all left their marks upon the city, and now the It's a Mimic! podcast is digging throught the annals of history to get some answers. What's with these massive statues? Who is the Mad Mage? What were the Guildwars?
It's all about lore, nobility, fallen gods, Underdark invasions, and masked politicians in this rich and storied look at the Sword Coast's second biggest city, the warlords of its past, the magical protections surrounding it, and factions that make daily life so... interesting. Join the panel of Dungeon Masters as they dig through the lore that 5th Edition has to offer, and deeper into what can be gleaned from previous publications of Dungeons & Dragons.

C011 - The Many Roads to Amelia: Raid at the Dillon Homestead
Friday Nov 13, 2020
Friday Nov 13, 2020
It is Monday, November 13th, 1922, and the Great War is still a fresh wound on the minds of most people. The small town of Denison, Texas did not see all of its sons return home, but life has had to move on. But for one family man named Robert Dillon, the world still feels like a cruel and harsh place. For he has just lowered the body of his brother, Samuel, into the cold autumn ground of the cemetery on the family property. It is a large cattle ranch that hugs the Red River about thirty miles outside of Denison , and he and his brother had worked closely to keep the ranch successful after the recent passing of their parents. A few days ago, Robert (also known as Ox by family and friends) sent his wife Mabel to accompany Samuel on a trip into town. There, tragedy struck, as an automobile screeched out of control, hitting them both in the middle of the street. Mabel was thrown to the side and landed hard, but Samuel was run down like a dog. The car sped off as bystanders ran forward. While everyone there agreed that this was just another tragedy for the Dillon boys, no one could provide any details that would help hunt down the driver of the mysterious car.
As an ex-Pinkerton, Ox Dillon is out for answers. His days in private investigation and the war has left him a man of action. But his hands are tied. With an injured wife, two young daughters, a suddenly widowed sister-in-law Sarah, and a ranch to run on his own, he doesn’t have time to hunt down whoever it was who killed his brother. So he’s made arrangements for the funeral. Organized a wake at Red River Baptist church. And tried to keep some normalcy for the sake of his family. But of course he can’t just let it go.
He’s leaned on his three trusted farmhands, Hank, Diego, and Slim, for support. He’s looked to Reverend Smith for guidance, and his wife’s sister Margaret for help. And he’s reached out to his old Pinkerton friend, John Redfield, to dig into which out-of-towners were in Denison on the day his brother was killed.
The skies are grey, but it's relatively warm in this part of the world, considering the time of year. And as the sun rises high behind the branches of the old willow tree that stands sentinel over the family graves, Ox takes a deep breath and tries to show his daughters a kind smile to comfort them. But Ruth is twelve now, and Elizabeth is nine, so they are old enough to understand what death is, and that Uncle Samuel will never be coming home. They know it, and he can see it on their faces.
It breaks his heart. He just wants closure now, for himself, and for his family. And as the funeral wraps up, he looks at the barren plot of earth that covers his brother’s broken body, and he prays for rest. Little does he know that this will be the closest to rest that his family will ever have together again. For tonight marks the night where his family will shatter irrevocably... during the tragic Raid at the Dillon Homestead...

E094 – Dragon Mastery – Corrupted Dragons: Absolute Power Corrupted Absolutely
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
Tuesday Nov 10, 2020
In D&D, Dragons are an imposing encounter in their own right (just see the second "D"... heh), but nah... Some madlads had to go ahead and make them even scarier. As the panel of Dungeon Masters at the It's a Mimic! podcast sifted through the 5th Edition lore surrounding dragons, they discovered that there is more than one way to corrupt those big scalies into a more purer evil. This episode looks into what it means when you apply the templates in the 5e Monster Manual to create your own Shadow Dragon and/or Dracolich.
Are the mechanics inspiring? Do the CR's still apply? What needs to happen in the story or lore to create one of these draconic nasties? Join Terry, Megan, and Adam as they look into all the implications and applications of corrupting your dragons beyond their usual terrifying selves.

E093 – Dungeon Mastery - Conditions: The Wrong Kind of Long Rest
Tuesday Nov 03, 2020
Tuesday Nov 03, 2020
Grab your comfy pants, a cup of warm cocoa, and take a load off because this week, the It's a Mimic! podcast is talking about those times when the conscious mind takes a break. Let's be honest, the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer, and sometimes you just wanna curl into a ball and go to sleep. Your characters are just the same and that's just what Dan, Adam and Megan want to chat about - Rests, Unconsciousness, and Exhaustion.
But what if you feel the need for taking that break in the middle of a fight after standing fully exposed before a spout of dragon flame, or after getting dragged under the waves from some ancient aquatic evil? Well, have no fear (well... have a little fear) because we are also covering Death Saves, Drowning, Asphyxiating, Getting Swallowed and the dreaded Death Spiral!

E028B - Warlock Patrons: Patronizing Demon-strations
Saturday Oct 31, 2020
Saturday Oct 31, 2020
Returning to the annual discussion of the It's A Mimic! podcast on Warlock Patrons, Adam, Dan, and Dave bring you a treat (and some inappropriate tricks). The year, they're digging into the bottomless pit of the Abyss, working their way through all eight of the demon lords:
- Baphomet
- Demogorgon
- Fraz-Urb'luu
- Grazz't
- Juiblex
- Orcus
- Yeenoghu
- Zuggtmoy
After the end credits, we use Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes to make an ambitious Marilith in Chult who fawns over others to make her betrayal more unexpected. She believes that everyone reaches their station in the cosmos that they deserve, based on their drives and talents. She believes that she is a perfect product of creation, destined to one day shape the cosmos to her whims, and that everything she does verifies her destiny. She rages, but uses the anger to distract from her fear of confrontation. She has an ever-open extra eye, silver bones, and an ever-mumbling second mouth. Mechanically, she has advnatage on Perception checks related to sight, her natural weapons are considered silvered, and disadvantage on Stealth checks against creatures that can hear. Her cult wants political power over the local area, and it has access to a cache of powerful magic. It's also an entrenched secret society that is decades old, but murder and betrayal leads to constant turnover in cult leadership. We're going to call her... May-Ghun.

E092 - Port-FOE-lios - Beholders: Rays-ing the Dead
Tuesday Oct 27, 2020
Tuesday Oct 27, 2020
What happens when a bloated, drooling, eye-stalk-covered, laser-beam shooting, evil, narcissistic, floating eyeball with a maw of jagged teeth goes some how more wrong? We make another Beholders episode! In this week's It's a Mimic! podcast, Adam, Megan, and Terry discuss the malicious malcontents from the great beyond again, but this time it's the twisted variants. Whether they be a Zombie, Death Tyrant, Gauth, or Death Kiss, the floating eyeball of death clan is chock-a-block full of fun, twisted ways to torture your party during these late autumn days.
But that's not all! The panel of DM's also talk about adding more depth to your run-of-the-mill Beholders, from their wants and quirks to roleplaying tips and the lair of the beholder. So find a spot to hover over, feed your pet goldfish (that if someone so much as looks at wrong: BOOM! Disintegration ray!), and enjoy!

E091 – Class: Divine Intervention - Clerics: Praying on the Enemy
Tuesday Oct 20, 2020
Tuesday Oct 20, 2020
Grab your holy symbol and draw your mace! It's time for pious violence and holy death in this week's episode of the It's A Mimic! podcast. In our third episode of our discussion on Clerics, the panel of Dungeon Masters cover the three best candidates for evil cleric subclasses in Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition! Whether it's the popular War Domain, the misunderstood Grave Domain, or the NPC Death Domain from the Dungeon Masters Guide, there's a lot to discuss about how to bring the nastiest of hurts to the heathens around you.
But before the sermon about subclasses even starts, the congregation of DM's breaks down what they're looking for in a Homebrew Pantheon, and what divine inspirations have graced their previous campaigns. So get on your knees and open yourself up to the wisdom that will be bestowed upon you in this episode on Evil Clerics.
(No altar gnomes were harmed in the making of this episode.)
